29 August 2025: Museum Night Kiel with the ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Aquarium

Meet the Scientists: Experience marine research up close

Want to explore Kiel by night? This is possible on 29 August during the Museum Night, when 30 Kiel museums and cultural institutions open their doors between 7 pm and midnight. The ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ aquarium on the west bank will also be there again.

Visitors can dive into the world of the seas and see animals from the Baltic Sea, North Sea and North Atlantic. The flora of the Mediterranean and tropical seas can also be explored.

In the evening, two scientists from ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ will each give a 15-minute lecture and thus provide an exciting insight into their research: Dr Till Harter will report on the adaptation of cod in the Baltic Sea to overfishing and climate change and Dr Mark Lenz will talk about the influence of light pollution on benthic coastal systems. There will also be a creative hands-on station where visitors can make jellyfish, whales and octopuses out of origami. As part of a commented seal feeding at 9 pm, visitors can observe the aquarium's four seals and learn more about their behaviour, care and protection.
