6 August, Kiel: Kids Ocean Day 2025

Kick-off of the Ocean Race Europe event week

On 6 August, ‘Kids Ocean Day’ will launch the varied supporting programme for the ‘Ocean Race Europe’, which will begin in the state capital von 10 August for the first time.

The children can look forward to an exciting and varied programme organised in cooperation with the Malizia sailing team, the ACO company, the Ocean Race team and the ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel. In four interactive sessions, the focus is on marine conservation, science and team spirit. At ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ's benthoscosms, you can observe starfish and other marine animals, and learn how climate change is altering their habitats. Our researchers will explain how we can protect the ocean.

Kids Ocean Day will open with an interactive speech by Birte Lorenzen-Herrmann. She is the co-founder of the 'My Ocean Challenge' programme and the wife of professional sailor and Ocean Race participant Boris Herrmann. She will speak about exploring the ocean and climate change.
