06 to 10 August: The Ocean Race Europe 2025 and Open Ship on the FS ALKOR
For the first time: Kiel as the starting port for the top sporting event
Following the successful fly-by event of the Ocean Race two years ago, Kiel is this year hosting the start of the top sporting event, 'The Ocean Race Europe 2025'. From 6 to 10 August, visitors to the OCEAN LIVE PARK can enjoy not only thrilling sailing, but also a wide range of cultural, sporting and environmental events on land and at sea.
Alongside Team Malizia and SubCtech, the ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel will demonstrate how science and sailing can complement each other. The Malizia sailing team will demonstrate how they combine top-class sport and data acquisition. SubCtech will present the resources required for this using the OceanPack-RACE demo device, and will provide general information on the topic of 'Sailing meets Science'. ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ will offer visitors the chance to experience science first-hand, with activities ranging from a microscopy station to information stands on seagrass meadows and a model of the new research vessel METEOR IV.
On 9 August 2025, the FS ALKOR will open the gangway to visitors from 10:00 to 17:00. They will have the opportunity to explore a research vessel and gain insight into the work and life aboard. Current research projects from the Baltic Sea and the world's oceans will be presented alongside hands-on experiments and much more.
