Working with radioactive substances on board
Radiation protection on research vessels
Before radioactive substances may be handled on board research vessels a notification of the activity and an appointment of a suitable radiation protection officer is required prior to it. For the research vessels ALKOR and LITTORINA this is handled by ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ. Radioactive substances and the work with them must therefore be applied for from the permit holder (ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ Kiel represented by Mrs Matthes) for each research cruise.
We would like to point out that it is prohibited to work with radioactive substances on board without a prior notification and/or without a permit and will result in criminal prosecution.

The radiation protection officer must fulfill the following requirements:
- Valid radiation protection course for open and closed isotopes not older than 5 years.
