Film screening at ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ in cooperation with Sea Shepherd Germany

In cooperation with Sea Shepherd Germany, we are showing the new documentary film "Geisternetze - Kampf um die Ostsee" in our lecture hall (Building 8). The documentary shows the massive pressure the Baltic Sea is under due to eutrophication, overfishing, pollution, underwater noise and climate change.

A central theme of the documentary is Sea Shepherd Germany's Baltic Sea Campaign. The film team accompanied the crew of the TRITON and numerous volunteers for weeks as they worked to protect the sea - for example by retrieving ghost nets. In the film, Prof. Dr Thorsten Reusch, Head of the Marine Ecology research department at ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ, provides a technical context and highlights the scope for action.

Following the film, Professor Reusch, biologist and research diver Christian Lieberum, who is responsible for the citizen science project for the restoration of seagrass meadows at ºÚÁÏÊÓƵ, as well as Christin Otto and Florian Stadler from the Sea Shepherd campaign "Marine Meadows" will present various projects for the restoration and expansion of seagrass meadows.

After the film screening and the short presentations, questions about the Baltic Sea and Sea Shepherd's campaign work will be answered
